International Trade: Fall 2003
Final Exam
1. Take-Home Tasks (2/3 of exam grade)
(20 points) Homework Assignment #3
2. In Class (1/3 of exam grade)
(10 points) In-Class Essay
Using the text, articles from the syllabus or any other sources, write a two to three page essay that represents a comprehensive set of comments on a collection of topics in the papers presented by students in this class. You do not need to discuss all the papers. A good essay will be one that relates issues, ideas and theories across a number of papers (at least three), comments on points of contention and commonality, notes contradictions and inconsistencies and summarizes with some broad-themed conclusions. A very good essay will also make use of the textbook and a few external sources from the social science literature (excluding those cited by the papers' authors -- no websites unless you're using databases from authoritative government or NGO sources or full-text journal articles). You can bring any supplementary literature into class, you can ask other students to e-mail their papers to you in an MS Word attachment and bring those to class or notes drawn from them (don't ask for hardcopies, that may be an excessive imposition). [Note: This is not meant to be a critique of other student's papers and it will not affect the grade of anyone's paper] All the writing will be done in class but you may bring an outline from which you can structure your essay.
